Friday Edition at Mall of Asia

(Click on images for larger view)

Congratulations on a fantastic Sunday Club gimmick, hosted by the Master of Manila - Kuya Lito. We were a lot this time and it was at Mall of Asia. Present were (by birth order) Pop/Tito/Lolo Eddie, Kuya Mandy, Ate Boom, Kuya Lito, Kuya Nicky, Ate Pebs, Kuya Dondi, Kuya Dondon, Caren, Bambie, and Regina.

We all met up at the 2nd floor of the Entertainment mall because all the girls were nagkakandaloka at Elianto, the new Korean cosmetic store. But while Ate Pebs and Ate Boom, the real culprits at make-up buying, were splurging on stuff for their faces, the younger girls plus Kuya Dondon were nanggugulo with picture taking in the store, and the rest of the boys were outside talking because they were bored.

Since it was an after work on a Friday night thing, everyone was hungry. By Ate Boom's request, heavy food daw. So we ate at Pomodoro Verde where, as usual, we pigged out again. About the food, we had 2 pizzas and split some number of really yummy pastas (winner yung 5 cheese pasta namin ni Kuya Dondon) and 4 carafes of iced tea. Plus a canoli and gelato.

Since we were all full, we walked around a bit looking for a place to have coffee/dessert part 2. The walk part was nice and slightly funny because we were like tourists in another country. Forgive us! It's our first time all together in a mall after a really long time and it's not your typical next door neighbor mall. And there was the smell of salt water in the distance and fresh air so it felt altogether different.

Finally, corny nga naman if we land at Seattle's Best, we settled at this cafe called Conlins. It had a modern type of setting with good coffee. And it has a view of Imax. So we stayed for a bit and had abit of chit chat, until Regina got bored.

We then ventured into Timezone. Now, how's that for a change. Kuya Nicky, Kuya Dondon, Bam and Caren got hooked on this 4-player target shooting game while Regina, Ate Pebs, Kuya Dondi and Kuya Mandy took turns at the air hockey table. It was a pretty interesting end to an interestingly unusual evening. Sa mauulit!

Caren's Birthday / Matteo's Baptism

It actually began the night before. In spite of it actually being a cafeteria, I chose to have dinner at Amichi with just the family because I wanted to try the yummy Italian food and cheap gelato they were all talking about. And I liked it. Then, for some ambience (you know how arte the girls in this family are about ambience), we resumed for coffee at the Peninsula. At 12 midnight, the band started playing "Happy Birthday" and a cake with a single candle was brought to our table at the Peninsula Manila. Voila! It's my birthday! And thanks to Ate Pebs! She treated everyone on my behalf. And then the gifts and greetings started coming in too.

That afternoon at 1 pm was Matteo's baptism at Santuario de San Antonio. Sunday Club President Ninong Dondi, Vice President Ninang T.C., P.R.O. Ninang Bam, and Out-of-town Project Head Ninong Nicky were all godparents, as well as Ninong Wes and Ninang Pam. It was a very solemn affair of welcoming our dear Matteo into the Catholic life and beginning our journey as his guides in the faith.

The baptism proper was followed by merienda at 4 pm, a celebration in Matteo's honor, at the Palladium Clubhouse. The place had a blue and white theme, with balloon and flower centerpieces, ultra delicious food catered by Conti's, and a luscious chocolate fountain by Jelly Belly. To pay tribute to St. Benedict's protection over Matteo, as well as being the saint he was named after, the giveaways to the guests were St. Benedict medals and crosses for the godparents for our continued protection against anything evil.

Achi Macie proved to be a serious yet very hospitable hostess. She welcomed everyone who arrived by the entrance to the clubhouse, personally served the guests chocolate fondue, distributed the giveaways, captured the attention of the paparazzi, and entertained the older crowd, as well as show off "Baby Brother" when people visited in her home. And of course, how can I let the day end without Macie singing "Happy Dortday T.Shee..." (Happy Birthday T.C.).

More importantly, it was a joyous affair, a coming together of family and friends for the welcoming of that precious gift from God that is our sweet Matteo Benedicto Panutat Carlos.

- As told by Ninang T.C.

Study Time at Corinthian Hills

It was a very small gathering this Sunday at Starbucks Corinthian Hills, the 100th branch in the Philippines. Present were official nerd - Bam, becoming official nerd - Wappy, and not nerd at all - Caren. How the heck Caren became a part of that group beats the heck out of everyone. For the record, while Bam studied abnormal psych and Wappy read up on the constitution, Caren did not study and no longer needs to study for school. She read the remaining 100 pages of Steve Berry's utterly disturbing "The Third Secret" while taking pictures of the surroundings.

(These photos are actual candid shots of our hardworking Sunday Club members)

But while the studying was gruesome, Starbucks Corinthian Hills proved to be a very bright and comfortable place to sit back and do each one's respective tangos - glass windows all around with a view of the outdoor Italian restaurant, nice lighting, plump velvet cushioned chairs... Sarap pa ng timpla nila ng kape. Not watered down, not too much milk, just the right, smoky taste to the palette.
